As the elder cousin of Miss Dorothy Xie, I have grown up with her and I have known since our childhood that she has always been the most intelligent child of the family, the pearl and the star in the eyes of her parents and other family members. When she grew up, she lived up to the great expectations of all the family members. First, she entered Peking University, the best university in China, with extraordinary performance at the entrance examinations. Next, upon her graduation, she has helped me launch and operate our company and in this process she has achieved outstanding results, contributing importantly to growth of the company. Now she has a higher ideal, to pursue advanced studies in an MBA program in North America. I deem it a great pleasure to write this recommendation letter to support the application efforts of a person whom I know so intimately, to acquaint you with her eagerness for learning, her indefatigable spirit and her intelligence, all of which are crucial in shaping a successful MBA student.

It has always been my belief that her greatest asset is her powerful learning ability, which can be testified by many important scholarships she received during her undergraduate studies. She produced equally impressive achievements in her work. She majored in economics as an undergraduate but our company is mainly involved in urban environmental renovation and landscape design. Her marketing responsibilities require her to develop in-depth understanding of those two fields, therefore she has to learn a lot in order to adapt to her new roles. As far as I know, she consulted a great number of technical books and she liked to learn from me and other technical personnel of our company. Within a short time, I discovered, to my pleasant surprise, that her professional level improved significantly. What surprised us was that many people who specialize in environmental art and architecture, including a professor, believed that she majored in architecture. Because of her increasing professionalism, she has been playing a major role in our company and I am convinced that such a powerful learning capacity will be indispensable in her future studies.

Another valuable quality in Miss Xie is her refusal to admit defeat. Whenever she is assigned a task, she would go for it with all her efforts and in high spirits. She executes every step of her work methodically and meticulously. Each time she is confronted with a problem or difficulty, the very first idea that occurs to her is that there must be a solution. In a project during the Kunming International Horticulture Expo 99, the local government asked our company, without any prior notice, to edit a large-scale water-curtain movie within 24 hours. At that time we did not have sufficient equipment. It was Miss Xie who directed her term and, by downloading a software program from the Internet, spent the entire night and succeeded in editing the video with a chronograph. It was virtually a miracle. Although the final effect was not perfect, the local government gave high praises for the mere fact that the assignment was finished within such a short time. It is perhaps such a spirit that enables Miss Xie to be constantly creative in her work. Indeed, to be original and creative is another major quality inherent in her.

For a rapidly developing company like ours, the most important thing is the direction of its future development, the effective management and structural organization of the company. This is a subject Miss Xie and I have talked about most. With her solid foundation in economics, she has her own ambitions and ideals concerning the administration of the company. She has real experiences of company management, and has conducted serious reflections on the problems, both general and specific, in managing a company. She has experiences both successes and failures of decision-making. Also, she still faces many perplexing managerial problems to which she fervently wishes to seek answers. I believe that those practical experiences of Miss Xie as a company administrator, combined with the systematic MBA teachings at your prestigious university, will transform her into an accomplisher managerial professional in the future and into a powerful career woman.
