While achieving important progress in my studies, I believe there is still much room for me to tap my academic potential. The fact that I have obtained straight A’s in all my courses indicates I have the potential to take up much more challenging studies. On the other hand, the course offerings at Pace University is quite limited in scope, enable to furnish me with a broad knowledge base from which to freely explore my interests. In addition, having done sufficient coursework in the first two years, I expect to develop useful research experiences and to be kept informed of the cutting-edge developments in the academia. Finally, as undergraduate education can only give me fundamental knowledge and training, I will be looking forward to undertaking more advanced graduate studies in order to be fully qualified for a high-achieving career. To prepare for the more challenging graduate work, I need to transfer to a top-ranking university. Inspired by the belief that ‘the best way to learn is to learn from the best’, I hope to maximize my full potential and satisfy my strong intellectual curiosity during the remaining three years of a truly rewarding undergraduate program.

By studying the information about your prestigious university, I am convinced that it is fully geared to my learning needs and future aspirations. Your Department of Psychology offers a curriculum that is much more comprehensive, challenging and advanced. Apart from a full array of basic courses, there are a number of fascinating courses such as Statistical Reasoning for the Behavioral Sciences, Laboratory in Clinical Research and Abnormal Psychology, which are otherwise unavailable at Pace University but should be part of undergraduate curriculum. In addition, your university has world-class faculty who have been on the forefront of psychology research, whose research projects are open to motivated undergraduates. By getting involved in research, I will be able to hone my research skills, explore my own interests, and get prepared for research-focused graduate work. In my tentative plan, I hope to concentrate on clinical psychology which will enable me to use empirical and therapeutic approaches to help my prospective patients. The solid education at your university will definitely put me on the firm basis to excel in my future studies and career.

Indeed, I can see no better alternatives other than psychology that can give vent to my passion to serve the people in need. While spending the past winter vacation in Shanghai back in China, I learned that Prof. Wang Weihe from Union University in America, who is a good friend of my father’s, was on a lecture tour in Shanghai as a guest professor of the Special Education Department of Shanghai East China Normal University. I invited him to host a workshop at the special school where my younger sister is attending and give a lecture on how to help autistic children to the teachers and the parents. Both Prof. Wang and the school authorities welcomed my idea and, in my capacity as an official member of the charity organization International Lions Club, I contacted the local branch and recruited dozens of volunteers to facilitate the event. On Jan. ___, Prof. Wang gave a 3-hour lecture on the topic The Social Integration of Special Children and Autistic Children. For a whole afternoon, under my leadership, all the volunteers had wonderful interactions with the children at the school, to whom we also donated books and facilities for their training and recovery. In the wake of the event, I received many warm responses from the parents of the schoolchildren expressing their gratitude to me for launching this special and meaningful activity that could help enhance the welfare of both the children and their families. For the first time, I was filled with a strong sense of pride and satisfaction—I know how I can use my knowledge and skills make a difference in the lives of other people and to achieve my own self-actualization.

As a matter of fact, even a most cursory look at my Resume would highlight my passion to contribute to the communities of which I have been a part—member of the student union, a player of female football team, founder and organizer of an occupation consulting club and a charity club, and a singer of charity concerts. More recently, at Pace University, I have been an active member of two campus clubs. Committed to serving people in need, I will join student organizations at your university and work together with members on various projects that involve the use of psychology knowledge and skills to help people. I believe that psychology is first and foremost about people and for people and I can put it to the best use through a lifelong career of serving the people in need, beginning with a first-rate education at a first-rate institution.
