Recommendation Letter for Mr. Huang RL3

11. How long have you known the applicant and in what connection? Please comment on the frequency and context of your interaction.

I have known Mr. Mr. Huang , the applicant, for 9 years. As his advisor of the postgraduate program on economics, I was responsible for advising him to select the specialty subjects, topics for scientific research and preparation of the graduation thesis. Since an advisor of our department is available only to three students, we have had a lot of opportunities to meet to exchange our views. When he was preparing for a scientific study and the graduation thesis, in particular, we met quite often to discuss on some specific items, so I got to know him much better, especially his intelligence, characters and personal working styles. We still keep in close touch with each other even after he graduated from the university.

12. If applicable, briefly describe the applicant's role in your organization.

Among all the economic students of the 93 session, Mr. Huang was one of the most active, amicable and team-spirited. He showed his excellent leadership skills as well in the class and maintained very good interpersonal relations with all his fellow students. He was extremely active in organizing various functions for the students including their birthday parties. His enthusiastic passion for the companionship is still lasting even after he graduated from the university, and he has become a very reliable connection for all the classmates for he would organize a get-together from time to time and has even produced a liaison service through the internet. Besides, Mr. Huang is very warm-hearted and friendly to his fellow students. Starting a part-time job long before, he claimed much more social experience and better working skills than most of his fellows. Upon graduation when the students were busy preparing their CV necessary to hunt for a good job, Mr. Huang used to help them a lot in better presenting themselves through the CVs. As a result, most of the students in his class found satisfactory jobs upon graduation and they all expressed their sincere gratitude to him for the important role that Mr. Mr. Huang played in ensuring their job-hunting successes.

13. What do you consider the applicant's talents or strengths?

I consider him to be a good man as well as a good student. He has a healthy mind as good as his healthy body even though he was born from a very moderate family. Although he has a very good job now, he is never contented with what has been achieved and always prepares himself to meet greater challenges. Owing to all his exceptional capabilities demonstrated during his schooling years, he has now become a very competent employee of the company he is working for. It is typical that most Chinese postgraduate students claim higher IQ merits than EQ (socialization skills, for instance), but Mr. Mr. Huang is an exception and is good at presentation of both. He has a very broad good education background, and has built up a solid foundation of scientific and technologic specialties and economic and management education. This comprehensive knowledge has been extremely helpful for him to meet the expectations of different nature.

14. What do you consider the applicant's weakness or development needs?

Despite the fact that Mr. Huang has been working as a business administrator for nearly five years, and that he has learnt much more of the relevant basic principles during the postgraduate program as well as in practical professional service, he still needs to receive a program on business administration in a more systematic way, so that he will become a good professional manager.

Furthermore, China's business growth will not be possible without cooperation with foreign partners due to the increasingly globalization of world economy. Mr. Huang still has to learn more about the business with foreign cooperation so as gain the knowledge and experiences necessary to handle greater challenges on the international stage.

15. In what development areas has the applicant changed most over time?

Enhanced skills in business administration are the greatest achievement Mr. .Huang has made over the years. In 1997, he took initiative to volunteer to work as the chief financial officer of LiuZhou branch of Huang He Group in order to get more practice to improve his comprehensive skills. In 1999, he took the initiative to work as the general manager of LiuZhou branch, although it was the job that dealt with very hard interpersonal relations under great pressure. In 2000, even though the re-structuring of the branch company had been successfully completed, he chose to remain in LiuZhou branch company where he assumed the responsibility of transforming its business. In 2001, he changed to work as a system integration officer (something quite new to him) for a bigger organization. What he has been doing over the years is a process of unremitting accumulation of experiences to become more competent in handling greater challenges even at a cost of numerous immediate personal benefits.

16. What impact has this person had on the organization in which he works?

At the last year of postgraduate program, he was put in charge of one of the projects under my advise, namely, analysis of economic return generated by the HR development for railway-related enterprises of China. In 1995, these enterprises were at a point of transition from planned economy to market economy, hence had to meet a number of critical challenges to restore a proper competitiveness, formulation of a good HR strategy was the most important one. After extensive studies of the international practice and intensive investigation of the input/output of various state policies, Mr. Mr.Huang came up with a most pertinent and constructive proposal, which proved to be of great value to the reform and re-structuring of the railway industry. He reduced the whole studies to an article, which received a serious study by the policy makers of the railway sector.

17. What will this individual be doing in ten years? why?

Living in the prime time of life and owing to his excellent theoretical bases as well as good personal qualities, he will build up a good foundation for the future career in the next ten years or so. For sure, he will become an excellent professional business administrator and will possibly turn out to be a good entrepreneur. Alternatively, from academic point of view, I believe he possesses all the requisite qualifications necessary for a professional scholar.

18. please give us your appraisal of the applicant in terms of the qualities listed below. Describe the reference group you are using.
(Omitted)

Reference: there were altogether 24 postgraduates in the class of Mr. .Huang.
1. The Harvard business school is committed to developing outstanding leader who can inspire trust and confidence in others, please comment on the applicant's behavior (e.g., respect for others, honesty, integrity, accountability for personal behavior) within your organization and in the community.

Mr. Huang is a young man you can always count on. Over the years of acquaintanceship, he has been reliable and honest to teachers and fellow students, old or young. He shows respect to all of the group, and is always ready to help others, which accounts for his good relation with his fellows as well as the faculty. As long as he is in Beijing on the Teachers' Day, he will come to greet us in person. A responsible person, he would always try his level best to accomplish the tasks assigned to him qualitatively and quantitatively.

2. Please feel free to comment on the ratings that you have assigned in number 8 and make additional statements about the applicant's record, potential, or personal qualities that you believe would be helpful to the admission Board in considering this person's application for the MBA program.

As regards the North China Transportation University as well as the Transportation Economics: as one of the national key universities of China, North China Transportation University, located in Beijing, is one of the four universities as such in China. President Jiang Zemin is an alumnus. Transportation economics is one of the three specialties of North China Transportation University that provide Ph. D. programs in 1993. At the entrance examination of postgraduate program, only 1 out of every 8 students is recruited from the department of economics.

One more thing that might be helpful to establish a full picture of the applicant: Mr. and Mrs. Mr.Huang fell in love 8 years ago. During the 8-year-long marriage, they reciprocate very stable and sustainable passion and share every ups and downs with each other. I gather it very important that a professional business leader receive a strong support from his family, which is indispensable to his professional dedication and growth.
