Discuss your free time activities and interests. What is your most rewarding activity? What is your specific involvement, why you choose to get involved and the amount of time you have to the activity.

When I was at university, one of my friends and I used our knowledge of computers and the Internet to establish a small online company. The main business of our company was to introduce other small companies to potential clients through a unique method - signing up members to our website and then allowing these individuals access to a wide range of information about our member companies. Individuals would fill out our application and then received a password to visit the websites of any companies that they were interested in. We charged them according to how much information they accessed every month. This wasin 1998, when there were few information research tools in China, and at first few people and companies wanted to use our service. People didn't think that they needed our service to look for information, and companies did not want to give us their company profiles and product information because they did not believe that we would provide them with orders and that we would disclose their confidential information to their competitors.

Rather than giving up, we went to factories and talked to CEOs, and interviewed many students to understand what they wanted from a website. After months of discussion, my partner and I decided to focus only on sportswear because sportswear was popular on campus but there were no stores selling sportswear at our school. We contacted as many sportswear manufacturers as possible, such as Nike, Adidas, and Reebok, and placed them or links to them on our website. When any student showed an interest in any item, we showed a sample to him or her. Through this method, we were able to earn about US$10,000 in 1997, which was a very substantial amount that helped pay my tuition and living fees through school.

Our service became very popular at our university and then with many other Internet users. In 1999, we graduated and transferred our company to our school. During my time with the company from 1997 to 1999, I was able to apply my university learning while learning how to run a small company. I learned how difficult it is to own a company, to balance inventories and sales, and how to manage a company by controlling finances, managing the sales plan and analyzing marketing efforts.

Another interest of mine is sports, especially soccer, which I have been playing since primary school. The best part of playing soccer is the amazing feeling of being the leader of the team. I am usually designated as the captain because of my outstanding skills and never-give-up attitude. I know that my teammates trust me to lead the team to perform our best. Through playing soccer, I formed the characteristics of leadership, especially when facing keen competition. I also learned to act as a team player rather than an individual. Not even the best player can win a game by himself. In sports and in business, I have learned that a spirit of teamwork is necessary for success.
