Addressing why you chose to apply to the John Molson MBA and the factors leading to your decision to apply. The essay (approx. 500 words) is your opportunity to convey your unique background, personality and leadership qualities to prove that you will be an active participant in the MBA community.

I have chosen to apply to the John Molson MBA program for quality of education factors. There are many business universities in Canada, but few are world famous. Concordia is one of them. Your school of business has received accreditation from AACSB International that assures that I will receive the highest standard of business education. Concordia University and John Molson Business School in particular have a distinguished faculty with a very favorable teacher to student ratio. I will have the opportunity to study the most advanced business management theory and multicultural and international business models that will help train me to lead a Chinese company to success in the future. The small class sizes will allow me to not only learn the business theories from my professors but to also actively participate in classroom discussions with my unique Chinese background and business experiences.

As a department manager, I initiated reforms in the organization structure of my department. I divided the staff into four import and export teams with a special team in charge of new products. I developed a strict work plan but empowered every team leader with great freedom to make decisions to solve problems. This greatly increased cooperation among our employees and our volume and profits increased more than any other departments. I found that by taking a proactive approach, I was able to solve our problems. By studying in your MBA program, I hope to learn the business theories and case studies that can help me lead a Chinese company and avoid these problems before they start. I will apply my proactive approach to my MBA studies to get the best results possible from your program.

With eight years of experience with Chinese companies, I have developed a tremendous personal insight into business in China. The leadership qualities that I have displayed in my work career can be carried over and applied to my MBA studies. I will actively participate in classroom discussions, adding a unique Chinese point of view to the various case studies. I believe that the best method of learning is not to just sit back and expect the professors to fill you with knowledge. You must listen not only to the professors but also to your classmates, as they will have unique experiences and contributions that will be equally valuable. To contrast and compare Western and Chinese business practices is one of my greatest motivations for studying at your school. My desire is to take the best of Western business methods and combine them with the best of the Chinese business methods to lead a Chinese company to become one of the top five enterprises in the world.

It is my hope that this will only be the beginning of a life-long relationship with your school. I am aware that John Molson has an extensive Alumni Network composed of outstanding graduates that have succeeded all over the world. In the short-term, I hope that I may benefit from your extensive and impressive Alumni Network. In the long-term, I hope that I can benefit the others who will follow me at the John Molson School of Business.
