In switching from civil engineering to financial analysis, I have at least two unique advantages—quantitative research caliber and in-depth industry knowledge. During my Master’s program, I focused on the research project Regional Transportation Demands Forecasting Model, whose quantitative analysis involved game theory, optimization theory, operations research. My model provided solutions to traffic and transportation demands of Chinese metropolitan clusters and my findings were published in two papers in EI (The Engineering Index by U.S. Engineering Information Inc.), one on passenger-distribution patterns and pricing of railway and highway transportations, another on berth allocation planning. With research achievements far outweighing my peers, I can transfer my skills in complicated quantitative analysis to financial analysis.

My in-depth civil engineering knowledge will also give me unique strength as financial analyst on infrastructure industry. Following 2008 global financial crisis, Chinese authorities announced a colossal $586 billion bailout plan primarily targeted at country’s infrastructure. As investment projects are implemented, financial analysis will be performed concerning related companies and I will definitely become a leading analyst on this particular industry, a key industry anywhere in the world.

Admittedly, I have deficiencies in my finance background. But my intensive and comprehensive self-education in finance and economics and a full range of training programs at China Securities have significantly helped improve my background. Most crucially, I will enter China Securities’ Research Institute by the end of this year to engage in analysis of infrastructure and construction materials industries. Over the past three years, the Institute has been consistently ranked as “China’s Top 5 Team of Analysts” by the country’s leading New Fortune Magazine. I will acquire particular expertise in a set of unique valuation models. By then, my overall background in finance will be exceedingly strong and I will be superbly prepared for your outstanding M. Fin. program.
