The Schulich School of Business is known for its diversity. How will you, your background and your experience contribute to learning in this environment? (500 words)

Because I am a native of the Chinese mainland, I can bring a unique point of view to your already diverse university - not only as a Chinese citizen but also as a woman successfully working in what has traditionally been the male domain of international trade. My previous success has come through hard work and perseverance in an environment that even now is extremely difficult for a Chinese woman to compete. My experiences in one of the most rapidly growing business environments in the world will allow me to share an unmatched viewpoint and insight into a developing economy.

One of the important issues in today's business world is whether the so-called "new economy" is the driving force of international commerce. In my opinion, the basic business fundamentals of customer satisfaction in international trade are the foundation for the development of the world's economy regardless of whether you call it the "new" or "old" economy. The "new" economy is just the natural progression of the previous economic environment. International trade has quickened the pace of globalization. With my many years of hands-on experience in international trade, I can bring some important insights about the "new" economy in classroom discussions in Schulich's MBA program.

Globalization entails not only the rapid development of free trade, multinational investment and technology transformation, it also involves dialogue and true understanding among the world's many different cultures. I have lived and worked in XiAn in China's ShangXi province, a rapidly developing province in West China that is home to at least twenty-five ethnic minorities with distinct histories and cultures. The peaceful convergence of these minority groups into a prospering business environment has given me the opportunity to observe how different cultures can communicate and cooperate in business. I can integrate these unique experiences into my studies in your MBA program by sharing them at appropriate times both inside and outside of the classroom with my fellow students.

Outside of my extensive working experience in China, my best contribution to Schulich will be myself as a person - a brilliant student with high moral character, wisdom, ambition and diligence. My parents are still a great influence on my life. My father is always positive, regardless of the difficulties that he may face. He has taught me that diligence, independence and self-determination are necessary for success. My mother is a scholar researching Chinese literature. She inculcated in me the ability to be a kindhearted, tolerant person. My mother's struggle in fighting with cancer has shown my what is truly a strong will and has inspired me to overcome any adversity to accomplish my objectives. With these characteristics given to me by my parents, I will not only be able to complete my studies successfully, I can also share my experiences and enthusiasm for learning to motivate my classmates to become more successful in their studies. I sincerely hope that you will give me the opportunity to make my contribution to the Schulich School of Business MBA program.
