Professional Reference

Dear Sir or Madam:

In my capacity as the president of the China Bank (Dalian XXX Branch Office), I deem it a considerable pleasure to provide a letter of reference in support of Miss XX Xx who is currently applying for an advanced degree program in finance from your esteemed university. Miss XX undertook a 6-week internship at our bank in this past summer and. as the largest banking institution in Dalian City, we only accept a very limited number of undergraduates who apply for internship at our bank every year and those who qualify are definitely the best of a large multitude of applicants. Throughout her internship, Miss XX’s performance was regularly reported to me and I came to know her as a truly outstanding student and a most promising financial specialist.

During her internship, Miss XX was involved in helping offer accounting service to corporate organizations and in the process gained general understanding of the business practices in saving, credit card, and loan. On one hand, this allowed her to have an in-depth knowledge about the standard accounting workflow and auditing procedures of a major financial institution. On the other hand, she has transcended her textbook knowledge to develop a comprehensive picture about the basic business operations of a bank. In particular, she learned how the rigorous division of labor in accounting can prevent possible risks and create effective check and balance, as well as intra-group supervision, to reduce errors. Most importantly, she has had a rare opportunity to understand China’s financial market and the financial industry as a whole.

It was apparent that Miss XX had developed a solid foundation in accounting and finance through her undergraduate heretofore at her university. As she was quite clear about basic accounting and auditing procedures even before she undertook the internship, she quickly integrated into our working environment as soon as her internship commenced and her colleagues generally reported that she perfectly conformed to the professional standards of a formal employee. She was adept at applying her knowledge to real-world situations and even had the initiative to make proposals as to how our bank could make improvements in certain working procedures. For example, she warned that, even under the heavy workload, accountants should at least make careful matching twice between the signet of the check-holder with the signet reserved with the bank in order to ensure authenticity and to prevent possible criminal cases of forgery. Her colleagues were truly impressed by her conscientious attitude.

Apart from her competent performance in accounting, Miss XX was also exceedingly skilled in computer applications. All the reports and statements she filled in were neat and clear, free from errors or ambiguities, which was quite rare among all the students who have interned here in recent years. This unmistakably points to her professionalism and her strong sense of responsibility. I would also like to call your attention to Miss XX’s strong English proficiency. When dealing with international cases, she could communicate with the clients with great facility and seemed to be well versed in international accounting standards.

The Bank of China, established in 1912, is the largest financial institution in China with the longest history. It is also China’s leading multinational financial corporation with branch offices all over the world. For 13 consecutive years, it has been rated among the world’s top 500 by the Fortune magazine. Interning at our bank has obviously permitted Miss XX to develop both a domestic and an international perspective about the financial industry. This will give her much food for thought when undertaking her future study at your well-respected university.

I share Miss XX’s decision to pursue an advanced academic program before entering the industry. She has strong scholastic and academic aptitudes and China financial sector is in sore need of well-educated and well-trained financial and accounting professionals, especially with an international background. An advanced degree program in accounting and finance as offered by your university will be vital for her to develop advanced knowledge and skills that can cope with the changing challenges in the future. I would describe her motivation as strong and genuine, arising from an inner need and, through your program, Miss XX is bound to be an invaluable asset to China’s financial sector in the near future. Therefore, I would like to reaffirm my most unreserved support of her application and hope that you will find my account of this wonderful young lady useful in evaluating her application.

Yours sincerely

Su XXX

Ph.D. in Finance
President of the Bank of China (Dalian XXX Branch Office)
