Question 4
Consider the books, Essays, poems you have read
over the last year or 2, please discuss the way
in which one of them has changed your understanding
of the world, people of yourself.
Among the literal works I read in the past two
years, the poem "The Road Not Taken"
by the American poet Robert Frost has plucked
the chord of heart the most. This is probably
because I had to make more choices than others
in my pursuit of studies to date. One year ago,
I gave up the opportunity of being admitted into
Peking University - the best university in China
- and came to the US with a bold ambition to pursue
my further studies. Many people didn't understand
why I made the decision. But I never had any doubt
about it. As I see it, one will be able to taste
the joys not normally tasted by others only if
he takes the road seldom taken by others and immerse
himself in the dynamic western culture.
Now I'm about to give up the major of computer
science that I have been studying for nearly one
year with initial achievement and opted for the
major of economics of your university. I must
say my decision puzzled many others again. When
I made this decision, the voice of Robert Frost
echoed in my brain again: "I took the one
less traveled by, and that has made all the difference".
I'm fully aware that I may meet difficulties and
obstacles on the road. However, I also believe
I will be able to blaze new trails and open up
a new territory that belongs to me only.
