I would like to apply for enrolment on Curriculum Grounds 2003-4. I have very strong reasons for this application because the present school that I am attending cannot offer me the courses and approaches that I need in order to develop myself into the kind of person that I want to. My ideal is to become an ambassador who can engage in cultural exchanges. Even if this ideal is too ambitious to realize, I am determined to become a person who can contribute to cultural exchanges between China and the rest of the world. For this reason, I must learn English well. It is true that in my present school, English is being taught. But English teaching in China largely focuses on grammar. The students cannot know much about the culture of the English-speaking countries including Australia. In addition, My Chinese teachers who teach English are not very standard in their pronunciation. They emphasize a great deal on reading but not on communication and speaking. What's more, because of the lack of a native environment, we cannot learn truly native English. For this reason, many Chinese students will meet great difficulties in their communication with foreigners. I believe that the only way to learn English well is to go to your school. I believe that after a few years of study, I may not only improve my English proficiency but also learn a lot about Australian culture, about its society and its economy.

Another reason for my application for your school is that your school uses a very effective approach of teaching, allowing students to develop their various aptitudes as fully as possible through all kinds of teaching programs. In China, classroom teaching tends to be teacher-dominated and teachers tell students to mechanically memorize a lot of information. Students cannot learn and use their knowledge creatively. Their potentials cannot be fully developed. I believe that your students-centered teaching approach will teach students to learn creatively. For this reason, they will be more fruitful in their studies. This is precisely what I need.

Finally, by coming to study at your school, I will have a unique cultural experience. Two different cultures will meet. In this way, I will have a broad understanding of different peoples and their cultures. I will not have such a kind of experience if I continue to study in China.
