At present,
I am a senior student at the School of Economics and Management,
majoring in Finance. What is special about our School is
that, in pace with the growth of China’s incipient market
economy, it introduced advanced western economics and management
science to its students. This put me on the right track
in my financial studies from the very outset, which is a
unique advantage for me over students of finance in other
Chinese universities. Although I have been most interested
in the highly pragmatic subjects of corporate finance, management,
accounting, and economic law, I still managed to read a
few western classics of economics in original English versions
including Paul A. Samuelson’s Economics and N. Gregory
Mankiw’s Principles of Economics. In this way, I have developed
effective ways of thinking in accordance with the principles
of economics.
In studying
finance, I have always attached great importance to the
cultivation of creativity and research potential. Due to
my sound business sensitivity and logical reason, plus my
creative way of problem solving, I have considerably outperformed
my classmates in financial analysis. In a case analysis
project during the course Financial Management, I led a
three-person team and succeeded in inferring, based on the
historical data of a certain company, the accounting principles
it practiced, depreciation methods and appraisal criteria.
We also presented an accurate prediction of the company’s
future capital flow. Because of our outstanding performance,
out report was put on display as a sample of excellent case
analysis of the School. In addition, as part of the School’s
traditional academic exchange activities of seminar, I participated
in a research project on The Individual Financial Management
of Chinese Citizens” and the treatise I wrote was awarded
a prize in the final evaluation.
As I
had an early realization of the comprehensive qualities
necessary for a professional of business management, I have
consciously endeavored to develop my management skills and
team spirit through extracurricular activities. I have been
the monitor of my class and as such I diligently performed
my duties of the routine management of the class. Last year,
I successfully organized our school’s “Winter Emotions”
evening party. Furthermore, I am a member of several of
our university’s student organizations including Scientific
Research Association, Financial Association, and Art Troupe.
As I possess strong interpersonal skills, I helped obtain
many sponsorships for research projects when working at
the Department of External Liaison of the Scientific Research
Association. Finally, I have been a “REDBUD” youth volunteer
of our university since I was a sophomore and participated
in various voluntary activities like the university anniversary
celebration. Through those activities, I have considerably
strengthened my sense of social responsibility.
My interest
in law originated in my systematic study of the specialized
course Economic Law. Business practices in the real world
are all related to law and China’s on-going constructions
in market economy and legal system makes your program particularly
relevant. While studying the course Economic Law, I also
ventured into specific laws under it, such as Corporate
Law, Contract Law and Insurance Law. I also audited several
other basic law courses at our university’s Law School
to enrich my legal knowledge. In the first half of this
year, I did an internship at the Merger Department of China
Securities Research Institute. I participated in the merger
plans for several companies. The legal issues involved in
those merger plans triggered my strong interest in conducting
further study of law. I attended an optional course in financial
law right after this internship.
The
underlying motive of my choosing your program is my growing
interest in law and financial accounting. I believe that
only in a country of developed market economy like the UK
is it possible for me to learn the most advanced knowledge
in law and accounting. Although I do not have a systematic
formal education in law, I have realized that an interdisciplinary
program in law and accounting is bound to be a fascinating
and highly useful field. With China’s increasing economic
and commercial integration into the international community
marked by its WTO accession, a student instructed in both
law and accounting, particularly in an international environment,
will be very important to China. Therefore, I am determined
to pursue a career in law and accounting, which perfectly
unites my personal interest, my vision for the future and
the demand of China’s job market.
In my
undergraduate education, I have developed a relatively solid
foundation in accounting. My academic transcript shows that
I have attended some of the most important courses related
to accounting, including financial accounting, managerial
accounting, financial management (1) and financial management
(2). My scores for those courses are exceedingly satisfactory.
In your program, I will continue to consolidate my accounting
background by learning more specialized courses. But law
will be my first priority. I expect to study a variety of
basic law courses so that my knowledge will be more systematic
and comprehensive. Then, based on my understanding of Anglo-American
culture, I will undertake in-depth study of Anglo-American
legal systems, and finally narrow down to a specialized
and more advanced study on international economic law.
Specifically,
in my proposed program, I would like to concentrate on the
legal and accounting issues involved in international enterprise
merging and purchase, as well as similar issues in international
capital flow. To undertake serious studies and research
on those issues, it is absolutely necessary for me to have
a strong theoretical buildup and to acquire relevant expertise
as to the operation of those complicated procedures. It
is my hope that, through substantial case studies and internships,
I can significantly improve my understanding of law and
enhance my accounting skills. Your program will definitely
become a turning point for my future career development.
Five to ten years from completing your program, I wish to
work to a senior position in a multinational company in
China.
LSE
is acknowledged as one of the world famous universities
in the world. It is the only British university exclusively
devoted to the teaching and research in social sciences.
Its teaching and research achievements in finance, accounting
and law is unparalleled, a factor sufficient to make me
choose it as my first priority. As a young girl with a beautiful
vision for the future, my greatest wish is to seek enrichment
of knowledge and career development through making constant
efforts. In my past education, I have proved my excellence
by becoming one of the distinguished students of Tsinghua
University. In my future education at LSE, I will endeavor
to prove my sustained excellence once again through heightened
diligence and perseverance. For this reason, I wish that
my application will be most seriously and favorably considered.
